Arch’d H Reid & Co Ltd is reputed to be the oldest yacht brokerage firm in the world. Although commencing business in 1900, the company was Established in 1904 by Archibald Reid who was Naval Architect. Then he had little competition. It is said that his only rival was a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron who “dabbled” in yacht brokerage by introducing members who wished to sell to members wishing to buy. His son, a Navy Captain took over the business and was assisted by his wife, Mrs Reid, who became famous for her straight forward dealings. After her retirement in the late 1970’s the company was taken over by Phillip Riesco, a broker at Lloyds who in turn in 1985 sold the company to Nichola Long Kirkwood. Her passion was, and remains, classic yachts and she was selling and promoting these lovely vessels in the 1980’s when few buyers were interested. Now, of course, it is a different proposition and these lovely yachts have become collector’s items.

Captain Ian Kirkwood joined in early 1994 and since then the company has sold and purchased many yachts. Ian was instrumental in building the lovely 90m classic Gentlemen’s motor yacht Nero and has supervised many builds and refits over the years.

The company has sold many of the most beautiful yachts in the world and the archives date back accordingly.

Arch’d H Reid & Co Ltd are proud to be the worldwide marketing agents for Classic Swedish Yachts and their expertise in this market is well know.
